Leprechaun Goes Wild – one more replica from Play’n Go
Play’n Go released Leprechaun Goes Wild slot on February 13, 2020. The developer also demonstrated the title at ICE that was held in London. The title became the next game in the Leprechaun series, which includes Leprechaun Goes to Egypt and Leprechaun Goes to Hell released in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
In the company’s press release, the game is branded as “fantastic title with most beloved characters, which players feel a connection with”. They proclaim “the Rainbow Revolution” in the online slots world. But is it really true? No, this is not.
Play’n Go has just created a replica of its year-old slot – Street Magic.
Play’n Go seems to lose the ability to make new, exclusive products. The company is currently duplicating similar games one after another.
This is a very “smart” idea! If a new slot is needed, all you have to do is just to change something in the old one! That is it. It is no more necessary to be in search of innovative ideas and put them into effect. This painful process is outdated for Play’n Go.
We have to say that players spend their money, and the company’s managers line their pockets.
The luck of the Irish
Every one of you has definitely heard the saying “The luck of the Irish” and it is highly likely associated with St. Patrick’s Day. The funny fact is that the meaning has nothing to do with the good fortune of Irish people and has a different connotation.
The truth is that in the days of the gold rush, the most successful miners and businesspersons were Irish-born. As time was passing, the saying “luck of the Irish” appeared. Since then, this phrase applies to all Irish people, quite apart from the fact that it does not even have the Irish roots. Thus, clover is considered to be good luck in the Irish culture. But let’s get back to the meat.
Leprechaun Goes Wild is a 5-reel and 4-row game with 20 fixed pay lines. The game process is laid around the green sunny countryside. To the left and right from the grid, there are two mysterious statues, attaching special charm to the slot. To get a payout, you have to catch 3 or more matching icons.
Leprechaun Goes Wild is a highly volatile slot. The volatility rating here is 9/10, however, it’s not so severe as some of the latest releases from the provider. But anyway, we have another “all or nothing” slot on our hands. RTP is 96.20%. According to Play’n Go, the game technically has a potential of 10,000x the stake. The base game does not surprise us with something extraordinary.
Graphics and Symbols
The low-value icons are represented by typical royals from 10 to Ace. The high paying symbols are connected to leprechauns’ life: a horseshoe, a beer mug, a smoky pipe, a leprechaun’s hat, and a pot full of gold. The pot of gold is obviously the most expensive one and gives you 20x your stake for 5-of-a-kind. The top-priced symbol is a Wild, which gives 40x the stake for 5 of them. There are five different Wild icons in the game; all of them are shown as leprechauns. They may look different, but their function is the same: to substitute for any other pay symbols to form more winning combinations.
The scatter symbol is a four-leaf shamrock that brings the Irish luck. It appears on reels 1, 3, and 5 only.
How great it would be if it were not a Street Magic slot’s replica. In comparison with Street Magic, there are the same characteristics: a 5*4 grid, 20 pay lines, the same RTP and winning potential.
However, the developers added some differences that we will discuss.
The most exciting thing is that Street Magic slot itself is a combo of Dead or Live (Netent) and Cazino Zeppelin (YGGDRASIL) games.
I would like to appeal to Play’n Go. On your website, there is the phrase “We are game”. I want to ask you if you intend to keep this up. It’d better say “We are A game”, as you are not able to create new exclusive games “without assistance” of other casino providers.
Street Magic = Dead or Live + Cazino Zeppelin
2 bonus features are waiting for you: Free Spins and Luck of the Irish feature. Let us start with the second one.
Luck of the Irish Feature
If 2 scatters land, the Luck of the Irish Feature is activated. Two things can happen now
- Either 1 wild symbol is added on each reel;
- Or 1 scatter is added to trigger free spins.
In its turn, Street Magic slot offers the same scheme with 2 Scatters on the reels. They also trigger different tricks: The Wild Shuffle, The Expanding Man and The Transporting Man.
As we said before, the scatter is a four-leaf shamrock icon. Three of them award 7, 9, 11, or 13 Free Spins randomly. The scatter icon only appears on reels 1, 3, and 5. It also acts as a wild and can substitute for all other symbols.
During the bonus round, any wild becomes sticky and remains on the place until the end of free spins. If there is at least one wild on each reel, you will be awarded additional 3, 5, 7, or 9 extra spins. This retrigger option is available only once.
In Street Magic slot, a scatter symbol is a magician that acts in the same way: it lands on 1, 3, and 5th reel only, also acts as a Wild and becomes sticky.
Talking about Free Spins particularly, here is a distinction: in Street Magic, 3 cards with Free Spins number are suggested. You are to pick one of them to get 8, 10, or 12 Free Spins.
In Leprechaun Goes Wild, Free Spins are triggered randomly and there are 4 variants, instead of 3.
As is was mentioned before, if you catch 5 Sticky Wilds in both slots (like 5 Wild Symbols in Dead or Alive…oops), you are awarded additional Free Spins. And the same distinction hits on: in Street Magic, you have 3 cards to choose, in Leprechaun Goes Wild – 4 random variants. The developers must have been thinking of this difference for a long time, for a month or two!
Soundtrack and Design
We have already described the slot symbols. Now, let us go into the tracing details.
Low- and high-value icons are made in decidedly poor quality. The same we can say about the game animation. Play’n Go seem to save their money again!
Turning to the Wild icons, the developers have created 5 different characters to represent Wilds. But, they do not differ significantly. Was it worth any effort, if this doesn’t look good? They could have added some more drawing characters, but this is about saving once again.
The slot sounds are probably the only advantage
Every sound is tuneful, taken from the Leprechaun world. As if the creators used the magic sounds from the Harry Potter wizard world: it sounds like a magic wave of the wand when symbols land on the reels and form a winning combo. And when a win is counting to your balance, you hear a sound of an ongoing miracle itself.
However, the main soundtrack disappointed. The music is monotone and dull. You’ll feel tired of it after a couple of minutes.
Interface and Mobile version
Leprechaun Goes Wild has a standard Play’n Go interface, here they have not invented anything brand-new. Here you can make a bet just clicking on the value buttons. Near the Spin button, the Auto Spins button is located. Here there is no Max Bet button near to the Spin button, which is a big advantage, as a player cannot press it accidentally. The paytable is set in the lower-left corner.
As for the mobile version, it is not inferior to the desktop one. The UI is adapted for a mobile screen and it is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows smartphones. The spin button in the mobile version is located to the right of the grid, and the paytable is moved to the lower right corner of the screen.
As it has already been proven, Leprechaun Goes Wild is a replica of the Street Magic slot, but with another theme and design. But this is not the main problem. The point is that Street Magic itself does not offer anything unique. And Play’n Go developers have just created a bad copy of a mediocre slot.

The Irish would definitely like the game.
It is a replica of Street Magic slot;
A third-rate design;
Lack of new creative ideas.
